A dilapidated old Roccoco castle, in serious need of maintenance. You can still feel the grandeur and splendour from bygone days. Every wall, every floor and every ceiling is steeped in history. The core of the castle dates back to the thirteenth century, but its current look dates from the 18th.
Impressive hall, old paintings, chandeliers, winding staircase
Things to be discovered
- Smashed photo grames of smiling employees. One of them looks like the old man you've seen lurking about.
dusty, old furniture, high ceiling, hunting scenes on the walls
Things to be discovered
- Left behind yellowed notes for a speech, dated about ten years ago. It praises a scientist called Tiberius for their groundbreaking work in teleportation research.
boxes on shelves, some water damaged due to an old leak. Locked filing cabinet
Things to be discovered
- If you spend some time digging through the archives, you can reconstruct a history of the ROTOR institute and how its lead scientist Tiberius led to all their breakthroughs.
- An extensive plan of the castle in its ROTOR heyday. The electric wiring seems weird though, almost like there are is another floor above the top floor. But that can't be, right?
- filing cabinet: There are alphabetically sorted personnel files, including those of Tiberius. His file reveals he was fired due to misuse of funds and serious violation of protocol.
Unassuming back door, originally intended for castle staff. There is a narrow spiral staircase to the first floor.
Things to be discovered
- Electric breakers in a fuse box indicate there is an extra section of the castle, apparently high up, and its main switch is off.
- under the spiral staircase: Access to an underground tunnel between the castle and the coach house
Refurbished equipment with pretty cool capabilities. Microscopes, loads of chemicals and glassware, bunsen burners, insect traps, scientific models, small tools, etc.
Dusty and disused. No power unless restored. Has regular equipment, but also some unknown machines. Contains a few advanced Microlex computers. The secret lab can be discovered by investigating any of the clues leading to it (plans of the castle, electrical schematics)
Things to be discovered
- Meticulous lab notes written by Tiberius, describing apparent research into time travel via portals.
- hidden behind a piece of equipment: An old door to another attic room.
Ominous old attic room, containing a glowing circular portal, showing a lush jungle on the other side, behind a thin shimmering membrane. The portal leads to a prehistoric world ruled by giant insects and spiders. There might be some lurking in the shadows here. Some creatures have obviously broken through the attic roof to somewhere outside.
Things to be discovered
- Antennas, legs or wings that look like they're from insects, but that's impossible, they're far too big.
- deduct from the cabling and wiring: You can't just cut the power to the portal. Once activated, it energizes itself. Shutting it down requires a precise sequence of steps, but is definitely possible.
Damp, containing about 20cm of water. Low ceiling. Unlit. The walls are scratched with hard to read messages from servants who used the tunnel back in the 18th century.
70s era furniture and photos
Things to be discovered
- Bottles of strong liquor
- Love letters between low-level ROTOR employees, hinting at rendez-vous in the ice-celler or plague house
- Half-empty packets of ten-year old cigarettes.
- An extensive plan of the castle in its ROTOR heyday. The electric wiring seems weird though, almost like there are is another floor above the top floor. But that can't be, right?
Similar to the refurbished lab, but not refurbished. Lots of old, broken equipment, leaked batteries, etc. No power
Things to be discovered
- some small drop bottles hidden at the back of a cabinet, with a label 'LSD'
- fine tools for working on electronics
- in a locked poison cabinet: Poisonous and dangerous chemicals in small quantities
